Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University
Supporting the world's largest Jewish University
What do we do exactly?
The Canadian Friends seek to increase local awareness of Tel Aviv University's excellence in academic and research programs and to provide financial support through fundraising. It also encourages exchanges between professors in Canada and Israel and facilitates a student program for Canadians wishing to study in Israel.

Lending a hand.
Sponsoring Israeli students to learn from the world's best
Where do the world's top business and educational institutions go to tap the power of the world's best minds? TAU. More than 150 institutions — including NASA, NIH, York University's Schulich School of Business, IBM, Intel and Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute — have joint programs with TAU. They come for TAU's vast research expertise and its innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to meeting scientific challenges.
The Toronto community had a special relationship with Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut who collaborated with TAU scientists on research during the NASA space mission. With your help, CFTAU will continue to assist Israeli students so they can attend TAU and learn from the world's best minds.
CFTAU is committed to providing scholarships for deserving Israeli students to come to TAU and participate in its enriched academic environment. In Israel's unique social and economic environment which is constantly overshadowed by the threat of violence and war, it can be financially overwhelming for students and their parents to meet the demands of higher education at Tel Aviv University. As a public university, TAU is prohibited by law from increasing tuition to raise funds, but it has cut administrative and faculty salaries to trim costs. These cutbacks have meant less scholarship money, but you can join us to make a difference in the lives of promising young men and women.
Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University have generously donated to the scholarship fund that provides students with some assistance so that they are less dependent on part time work to make ends meet. This allows them more time to concentrate on their studies. Most scholarships are no more than $5000 and are awarded on the basis of need.
Diana is typical of those receiving aid. She was born in Latvia and immigrated to Israel in 1990. She is a nursing student with an 87 average. Her parents who faced significant financial difficulties, were able to assist their daughter in the past, but cannot now since being injured by a bomb that fell near their home in the 2006 Lebanon war.
On receiving aid from a Canadian Friends of TAU donor she wrote: 'I would like to thank you for this scholarship which allows me to fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse. I want to contribute to my community by helping care for the sick and disabled. I now know that I can finish my studies with less of an economic burden thanks to your generosity. You are not only helping me but helping build a better future for Israel.'
You too can make a difference in the lives of the next generation of Israel's citizens and leaders. Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University can help. Contact us to become a scholarship donor:
