The Opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic individual to build on Tel Aviv University’s outstanding reputation and lead fundraising activities primarily in Toronto with responsibility also for Western Canada. Reporting jointly to the Toronto Board of Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University and the Director, Development and Public Affairs Division of Tel Aviv University, key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute an annual business plan to ensure that Tel Aviv University obtains significant community support
- Encourage the engagement of volunteer leadership at the highest level
- Create a well balanced revenue mix, including major and planned gifts, annual giving and special events
- Manage a portfolio of prospects with an emphasis on supporters at the $25,000 plus level
- Implement an overall cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategy for each prospect with a view to maintaining outstanding relationships
- Plan and implement a wide range of educational and fundraising programs to stimulate interest in the University
- Work closely with the Director of Academic Affairs and promote a high level of participation in the School for Overseas Students
- Work closely with Canadian institutions to develop and implement mutual initiatives of interest
- Significantly raise the profile of Tel Aviv University
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the database
- Work closely with the Board, committees and volunteers to support their efforts on Tel Aviv University’s behalf
- Represent the organization at community activities, and serve as a well informed spokesperson
- Continually learn about Tel Aviv University and educate the community
Qualifications and ExperienceThe ideal candidate will be a highly energetic fundraising professional with a bias for action. S/he will need both the vision to lead, and the skill set to run all aspects of a smaller organization. Qualifications and experience include:
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in the not-for-profit sector, or transferable experience from the business sector
- Proven track record in fundraising and soliciting major gifts
- Established reputation with demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with volunteers, donors, and colleagues in Canada and Israel
- Ability to set and meet progressive strategic goals
- Broad-based background in all aspects of the fundraising cycle (identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship), ideally with experience in major gifts
- Experience in marketing and branding
- Track record in developing and implementing programs to generate funds and awareness
- Business acumen and experience in fiscal responsibility and budgeting
- Strategic and creative thinker
- Exceptional follow up skills
- Proficiency with technology and strong computer skills
- Excellent written and verbal skills with ability to effectively articulate the vision and mission of Tel Aviv University
- Ability to work independently as part of a team that is in different locations, and with minimal administrative support
- A highly visible community participant with willingness to be engaged with the community
- Understanding of applicable laws and regulations
- Experience working with global organizations is an advantage
- With a primary focus on Toronto, a willingness to travel as needed in Canada and Israel
- University degree; CFRE designation preferred
